My area of research interest is conversation analysis with a focus on the practice of peer social support. I have published articles and book chapters on advice giving, empathy and sympathy, encouragement and empowerment in a peer support setting. I have also published articles on consumer-run warm lines and peer leader programs. I currently advise our undergraduate Communication honors society, Lambda Pi Eta, which has yearly inductions in the Spring, and am working on an online textbook, Interpersonal Communication in the Age of Social Media, to be published by Great River Learning in 2020.
